Wyoming in August
Just got home from a great two week run of shows and it’s good to be back in Nashville. We had roughly 8 shows in 14 days from South Dakota, to Wyoming then we finished up the run in Amarillo, TX. The band did an awesome job and as always it was good to work with them and make music.
We had a little down time through out the trip and one of the shows we played was a benefit concert in Hulett, Wy. The organization also had a rough stock rodeo to help raise some money and we were able to attend. But we didn’t just show up at the rodeo, we were right in the way behind the chutes. It was good to see all the action, but I was even more excited to watch my band take it all in. Jim Smith (my bass player) from Massachusetts had never been to a rodeo and he literally got to stand on chute # 5 when the gate opened on chute # 4! They all got great footage on their iphones, they smelled like a feedlot when they left, and with dusty, sunburned necks they realized why it’s not a bad idea to wear a cowboy hat at an outdoor rodeo in the middle of the day in August!
After leaving the Black Hills area, we drove across the state of Wyoming, through Colorado, across the panhandle of Oklahoma and made it to Amarillo for another show. Talk about flat, windy, hot and extremely dry!! Holy smokes -- a big shout out to the Amarillo Texans; you’ve got to be tough to live out there. The American Quarter Horse Association hired us to play for their Select World Championship Show and we had a big time. Thank you to everyone who came out to the party.
The month of September will be a little slower as far as travel goes, but that will let us catch out breath before the fall schedule picks up. Between the concerts, the whitetail hunting with two different TV shows and roping at the AQHA Amateur World Championship show, it’s going to be a busy fall.
